Overview
Snort is an open-source, free and lightweight network intrusion detection system software for Linux and Windows to detect emerging threats. The job it does: assessing, monitoring and responding to security threats on your behalf.
It makes the most sense for companies without a full security team. They also list Intrusion Detection, Real Time and Security, so expect those to show up in the feature set. As a mid-sized company team themselves (51 to 200 people), they tend to serve customers of a similar scale best.
Snort is based in Columbia, Maryland. You can read more at snort.org.
Our checklist for this category: response times, what is included in monitoring, and reporting. Ask for a trial on your own data, not a canned demo.
Every review on Revaw shows how it was verified, so if you know Snort well, your review carries weight here.
