Oyster

Oyster offers software solutions and services for automated forms processing & data entry with OCR, ICR, OMR, bar codes and key from images. The job it does: building software for you when nothing off the shelf fits.

It makes the most sense for companies with a specific process to automate. Alongside the main category they mention Online Forums. They are a very small team, 1 to 10 people, which usually shapes who they work with. You will probably talk to the people who build it, which is great until you need 24/7 support.

Oyster is based in Oakland, California and around since 1996. Their site is oystersoft.com.

Our checklist for this category: portfolio relevance, who owns the code, and how they handle changes. Ask for a trial on your own data, not a canned demo.
