OpenEdit

OpenEdit offers JAVA-based open source software used in developing web applications. In practice that means running an online store from catalog to checkout.

The natural audience is retailers and brands. They also list Content, Digital Media and E-Commerce, so expect those to show up in the feature set. They are a very small team, 1 to 10 people, which usually shapes who they work with. Small vendors mean quick answers and real influence on the roadmap, but check who covers support when someone is out.

OpenEdit is based in Cincinnati, Ohio and founded in 2001. Their site is openeditdam.com.

Our checklist for this category: transaction fees, themes, and app ecosystem. A short pilot with your real data tells you more than any demo.
